Are you a senior high school student from the Alta Vista/Canterbury/Elmvale Acres/Ellwood community who is pursuing post-secondary studies in Writing, Journalism, or Communications? VISTAS is once again funding The Celine Tower Grant in the amount of $1,000 (CAD) to honour the memory of our long-time editor, Celine Tower. See below for the eligibility rules, application form, and instructions.
Applications are due no later than May 31, 2025.
Instructions
Eligibility:
- Must reside or study in the Alta Vista/Canterbury/Elmvale Acres/Ellwood area.
- Must be in senior year at High School.
- Must be pursuing or continuing studies at University/College in Writing, Journalism, or Communications.
Eligible applicants are invited to complete the following form to apply:
- Application for Celine Tower Grant (PDF: fillable form or print, complete, scan, and attach to your email)
Essay/Article:
- Write a 500 to 800-word essay, which could be an article in VISTAS. Create a story or a non-fiction article that would interest our readers based on current VISTAS themes. Please check out our previous editions of the VISTAS at www.vistas-news.ca. The writing will be evaluated based on topic, grammar, style, and organization.

- Resumé (which highlights community interests, if any, etc.)
Note: The name of a contact is requested, as this person may be contacted for a reference letter.
Eligible applicants will be contacted for an interview, and the successful person will be notified by June 30, 2025.
All applicants will be informed when a decision has been made.
The award recipient may have their writing published in VISTAS at the discretion of the Editor. If published, a photo of the recipient will be published. Completing this application grants permission to publish any submitted writing and a photo.
Acceptance of The Celine Tower Grant is conditional on providing VISTAS proof of enrolment in a Writing, Journalism, or Communications post-secondary program by August 1, 2025.
